Albany New York Food
Although I have spent most of my life in upstate New York, I only realized that fried fish is a predominantly regional dish when I did it so well here. Greek chicken and pork Souvlaki is something you get from a street food cart, but it's hard - you're pushed to find the dish in sophisticated New York. Chicken riggies are a classic of Utica's Italian-American cuisine, and you can eat them in sandwich form or eat them directly from the skewer. Nevertheless, the marinade, which is wedged into an Italian bun, is something special and the skewers can be eaten almost directly from the skewer.
There are a lot of great restaurants in Utica (see Club Monarch et al.), but then you're looking for the way you eat in Utica, and there's nothing like it in New York.
Like the Michigans, Boston Shake sounds foreign and it's rumored that he hangs up his hat in New York, but there's a real taste of Italy here. Utica has long been known as the hub of the best Italian cuisine in the region, and boasts a wealth of regional delicacies from Giorgio, Bolognese, Poggio and others. South of Syracuse, Binghamton is on this list because it so reminds you of how hungry it is and what it does with its plates. It is begging for the most famous restaurant in town, the famous Italian restaurant and bar. It is easy to miss because it is tucked away on the outskirts of town, just a few blocks from downtown Syracuse.
Open for breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch, this small oasis is located in the heart of the city, just a few blocks from downtown. The location offers a wide selection of dishes and is therefore a perfect place for a quick lunch or dinner or a late dinner.
The perfect meal in Buffalo consists of chicken wings as main course and sponge cake as dessert. No football night at this bar is complete without some of Upstate New York's most famous food.
You can also cite Cornell Chicken, but you only have enough to make it hard all year round. If you want to make a treat a must-eat in western New York, it must include chicken wings, pork ribs and a side of sweet potato fries. Make no mistake, you're choking the best chicken in the state, not just in Buffalo, but all over upstate New York.
Ted's has many outposts in Albany, but one of the most recommended burgers is the Kilcoyne Farms Burger, which has all the ingredients of a classic New York burger, plus a side of sweet potato fries. Seasonal options include meat from Herondale Farm in Ancramdale, New York, and the same menu system would have a friendly staff and you'd be quivering. They call orders from the open kitchen (amazingly) and always get it right, so you have to order.
If you're a carbohydrate fanatic, take a stab at a bowl of salt - and potatoes by the way, and if you like goat's cheese in another way, my suggestion is the Rochester-centric Chicken French, which is basically just chicken. The restaurant may not look like much from the outside, but like many other restaurants in this part of the city, it is one of the best you can find in Upstate New York. Cafe Capriccio welcomes chef Jim Rua to his hometown of Rochester with a new menu, some of which can be found in nearby Syracuse. It will not be better loved or known in Albany than the better loved and known Albanybebe.
Chef Alan Maki serves high quality cuisine that is not limited to seafood, but also delicious meat and pasta dishes. The pizza and wings are one of the best I can think of and they are perfect with any meal, whether pizza, wings or whatever else you fancy.
If you're in the area, drop by the River Rat Cheese Store and take home a bottle of the original version. Most restaurants in upstate New York offer a green salad with Thousand Island dressing, but if you order the Utica Greens at any restaurant in town, you can mix escarole and greens with what I suggest. Let's start with lunch and dinner, the starter menu offers a wide selection of salads, sandwiches, starters and even a salad bar. I used this as a side dish for my lunch or dinner at the restaurant And it's still one of my favourite dishes.
Melba sauce is best known to people in upstate New York as the thing you dip fried mozzarella in. The oldest church in the state of Up, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany, is one of the oldest in the state and has a stained glass window overlooking Lake Ontario and the Hudson River. Between the double-encrusted fruit pies lies a wine-growing region, the Finger Lakes region in the upland of New York, with its own unique grape and grapefruit varieties.
