Artist Bio
Ray Materson is a celebrated American textile artist. His medium is unraveled socks sewn onto boxer short material. His micro-embroideries, which typically measure two and one quarter by two and three quarter inches contain up to 1,200 stitches to the square inch.
His works have been displayed in New York City, Baltimore, Chicago and Ann Arbor. His story and art has been featured on the TODAY Show, Good Morning America, The New York Times and Sports Illustrated.
Mr. Materson is currently performing stories from his book Sins and Needles in his Dramatic Monologue. The one hour and thirty minute performance piece has captivated audiences and features the artist sharing stories with humor and passion. Images of his artworks are projected to emphasize the stories and add flavor and depth to the presentation.
The presentation has been described as a story of healing and hope and is especially meaningful for people with drug dependency problem or for those who have family members so afflicted. It is a journey into hell with a triumphant ending.
